THE POETICS OF THE SELF-IMPORTANT
“Better a Good Dishwasher than an Idle Master Chef”
Imagining itself as more deserving,
Hypocrisy resounds with its own voices;
But parasitical, the most unnerving
Is its concocted praise of others’ sauces.

The Chef as Letter C
Like an aging athlete, in a crowded gym,
Oozing a solipsism of mirrored sweat,
He hopes that someone will remember him —
The last thing that his limber servers fret.

“Career” Was Once Also a Verb
Sincerity requires style:
On someone else go waste your smile —
And blend in with a smirking mob
Of sycophants without a job.
