LINKS to Harry Northup’s POETRY HOUR

Harry Northup had an exceptionally fine career as an actor with memorable roles in some of the best-known and widely respected films of the past half-century. Now living at the Motion Picture Television Fund residence in Woodland Hills, Harry has been the producer and host of a series of poetry readings broadcast out of the MPTF studios. Harry Northup’s POETRY HOUR is not his first time heading up a reading series. He was the founder of the Gasoline Alley poetry series in the mid-1980s, which eventually was turned over to Phoebe MacAdams and me. I do have one quibble about Harry’s show: WHEN IS HE GOING TO READ HIS POEMS? Harry is giving so many poets a chance to reach a wider audience, and we in turn would love to hear his recent work as well as some of his own favorites.

I will update this list as more videos become available. Yesterday, for instance, Jim Moore read for the second time. If you don’t know this poet, I urge you to start with his most recent book, PROGNOSIS, which was published three months ago by Graywolf Press. UNDERGROUND: New and Selected Poems was also published by Graywolf. His first book, THE NEW BODY, was published by the University of Pittsburgh Press in 1976. Jim first came to Los Angeles to give a reading at Beyond Baroque back when I published WHAT THE BIRD SEES in 1978.
